Fellow Neighbors,
My name is Andrew Mendez, I currently serve on the City Council as your Mayor ProTem. I am again running for the Azusa City Council.
Azusa is an amazing city with a thriving community and economy. Having grown up in the City, and now raising my own family, I am proud to call Azusa my home. Having seen the community change and grow over the past several years, it is apparent the Azusa from the past is not the Azusa of today. I was sworn into office as your Councilmember in April of 2020. I am running again for City Council because I am certain I can continue to bring fresh leadership to actively pursue new ideas while still preserving our proud historic past.
My Top priorities as your Councilmember will be to:
Strengthen Public Safety.
Engaging in smart Economic Development. Ensuring our Downtown and the Edgewood Center and once again thriving destinations.
Promoting impactful programs for seniors, youth and working families.
Continuing to address our homeless crisis.
I respectfully ask for your vote again, on November 8th, 2022.

ABOUT ANDREW
Andrew is a product of our Azusa School system. He went to Murray Elementary School, where he was active with the “Fame” program. In fact, he met his wife, Carissa, in Second Grade at Murray Elementary, in Ms. Greens class. He went all three years to Center Middle School, where he was active in their band. Andrew graduated from Gladstone High School.
During his time in High School, Andrew was quite active with multiple different activities and programs. He was a part of the Marching Band, where he played many percussion instruments. During his Senior year, he served as the Drumline Captain. Andrew was an active Wrestler, where he earned multiple awards and served 2 years as the Team Captain. He was active in Yearbook and on the ASB.
Andrew, and his wife Carissa now raise their 5 children in the City. 4 of his Children are currently enrolled in Azusa schools
Professionally, Andrew is part of the management team at Century 21 Citrus in the city of San Dimas. He hopes to use his experience with building and development, to help move Azusa forward
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Community involvement has been something that was embedded into Andrew growing up.
When Andrew turned 15, he joined the Los Angeles County Explorer program. He met multiple times a month at Fire Station 32 in Azusa to train, work on projects and go on calls. From helping residents fill sandbags during storms, to collecting donations for muscular dystrophy with the “Fill the Boot” program, to setting up for events like “Relay For Life.” It was during this time where he had the opportunity to work with Mayor Joe Rocha. Together, they planted trees that turned Azusa into a “Tree City USA.” Andrew was able to log an average of 36 volunteer hours a month.
